Clinical Supervisor Position

Basingstoke Counselling Service is a well-established counselling service with over 30 years’ experience of providing high quality counselling to those living and working in the Basingstoke area.

We are seeking a supervisor to work within a friendly team in this counselling charity to provide supervision to qualified counsellors and counsellors in training. We work with counsellors who are both psychodynamically and integratively trained and therefore seek a supervisor who can also supervise in these ways.

In addition, the supervisor should have the ability to supervise couples work, short-term Employee Assistance work, and intake assessments. For further information about the role please read the Supervisor Person Specification

This is a position for a self-employed supervisor, who would be expected to source their own supervision to support their clinical work at BCS.

N.B. Our office and counselling rooms are located on the first floor of a Grade II Listed building owned by Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council. Regrettably there is no disabled access.

Hours/Days: Tuesdays from 12.15pm to 1.45pm (N.B. If you can’t meet these time requirements, but remain interested in becoming a supervisor with BCS, we would still welcome an application from you.) There may be scope for additional supervision groups at a later date.

Volunteer Counsellor positions

BCS welcomes applications from qualified or trainee counsellors to join our committed team of Volunteer Counsellors. At present, however, we do not have any positions available. If you still wish to be considered when a position opens, please continue reading for more information.

For further details on applying, please see the Application and Selection Process – Guidelines for Applicants and External Assessment Guidelines for Applicants.

Please also see the Counsellors Expectations of BCS and BCS Expectations of Counsellors document, which describes what BCS provides for counsellors who undertake counselling of BCS clients, and what BCS in turn expects of such counsellors.

Please note that we are unable to consider applications from counsellors in training unless trainees are able to start the placement within approximately six weeks. Applications made too far in advance mean that it is difficult for us to predict how trainees would develop over the intervening months and it is important for us to get as good an understanding as possible of where trainees are at the point at which they would begin seeing clients at BCS.

We offer a payment scheme for qualified counsellors; please enquire if you would like further details.

If you wish to submit an application for future consideration, please download an Application Form and email your completed form to or send it by post to Basingstoke Counselling Service, Goldings, London Road, Basingstoke, Hampshire, RG21 4AN.

If you have any queries or would like an informal chat prior to applying, please contact our Head of Counselling on 01256 843125 or

Trustee positions (voluntary)

We always welcome expressions of interest from people who would be interested in becoming a Trustee for Basingstoke Counselling Service.

The main function of the Trustee Board is to govern the charity and to determine its strategic direction. In support of BCS’s aims, its Trustees also have a responsibility to ensure financial viability and compliance with relevant legislation. The Board strives to maintain an appropriate balance of skills and expertise at its disposal, and currently would be particularly, though not exclusively, interested in people with experience of running a business and/or in marketing or financial control. Residence and established contacts within the Basingstoke area would be an advantage but not essential.

The Board meets four times a year and on other occasions to address specific subjects where necessary. Trustees are also encouraged to lend their specific expertise by way of advice and mentoring to the small part-time management team, and have a visible presence amongst the volunteer counsellors and staff.

For more information, please contact our Acting Chair of Trustees, Jim Bellis, on 01256 843125 or
